The coronavirus pandemic has affected cancer care for children at more than three-quarters of hospitals worldwide, according to research published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health journal.

The doctors and academics who carried out the study said they found "considerable disruption to cancer diagnosis" for children, with 43 per cent of hospitals "diagnosing fewer new cases than expected" since the pandemic started.

The research was based on a survey of 311 health-care professionals at 213 institutions in 79 countries, and involved eight hospitals and universities in Britain, India, Morocco, Spain, Uruguay and the United States.

With health-care systems focused on the virus, one in three hospitals said they had seen "a rise in the numbers of patients whose therapy did not begin or was delayed by four weeks or longer - known as treatment abandonment".

The virus rarely leads to severe illness in children, though those with "co-morbidities" such as cancer are likely to be more vulnerable.

Almost one in 10 hospitals surveyed "closed their paediatric cancer units completely at some stage" since the start of the pandemic.

The researchers found treatment in "low- and middle-income countries" was "disproportionately affected," with medics reporting disruptions to radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Previous surveys have warned of widespread interruptions to other medical treatments due to the pandemic.

One in five people in the US, the country that has reported the most COVID-19 deaths, have either skipped treatments or faced postponements, according to a Harvard University survey published in December.

This virus has come to decrease the population by causing death of aged people. Children don't even show symptoms. The corona virus loves youngsters

Governments dont have enough facilities to provide medical facilities to the people but are busy comming out with more health insurance policies when a government cannot provide for its citizens what is the use of that health insurance just a way of making money, private hospitals have been asked to vaccinate people at Rs250 a shot but they ask for Rs5000 if people question them they say the government does not have to pay for anything so they dont care but we have to get atleast the minimum charges required for a shot that is Rs5000 government is only good at fleecing people,I have said before slowly government will raise taxes and squeeze people its happening petrol has gone up by 40% common cooking gas used athome has gone up by 30% automatically inflation is rising and the pandemic is something like never happened, and the most important issue for the government is Religion the most useless thing

In times of despair, war or any other calamity people flock to the church, to try to cleanse their soul and try to find peace in their mind and are looking for forgiveness, etc. When the danger subsides they become the same sinners as they were before. No lessons learned. If that wasn´t or isn´t the case then (religious) people (became) become better people after a tragedy, plague, or any other disastrous happening and the world (was) would be filled with good people.

Religion should be a private matter you practice it the way you understand it,but here Religion is an political issue with no regard for anyone even god has been made a joke, and illiteracy is quite high even now in India so people fall for such issue making real issue irrelevant for the government when a government has support from useless issue why bother about what problems common people face that is not what the government elected for

Yes, I agree Religion should not have any business in the government of a country. Those are 2 separate things. Here in Brazil they are very intertwined.
