My thinking... Who would pay $17 to upgrade, and then not be active? That would be a fairly stupid thing to do.
But then Armand2REP, who would complete lots of offers/tasks and not go premium? Why get a 7% bonus (if you had ClixAddon installed), when you could be getting a 16% bonus? Perhaps you should calculate how much you are losing by not being a premium member, rather than dissing those who are already benefiting from being a premium member. I don't mean any offence, and I will back it up with some facts:
I joined ClixSense on 6th Feb 15, I upgraded to premium for 2 years (@ $30) on 7th Feb 15. So far (as today 19th Oct 2015) my earnings are $43.25, meaning I have a profit of $13.25 already with around 15/16 months of premium membership left. My referral commissions are $10.77 meaning without referrals I would have earned $32.48 which is still a profit and still have the 15/16 months to go. Of course, I rarely fail to sign in and complete my daily checklist.
As for your maths, I'm not sure how you calculated... you seem to have a 10% bonus calculated, there is no way of getting a 10% bonus. Also, let's say cadence99 gets the $0.031 bonus (as my example above) every day for the year that would be $11.315 in bonuses alone, add the activity ($0.192 a day) and that's another $70.08 a year, totalling $81.39 in the year. Even this far exceeds the $17 cost of premium.
So, I would encourage anyone to be active and go premium... you can't lose doing both!!
As far as my math, you already get a 6-7% (depending on activity) bonus for standard so the premium gets you 9-10% more. In order to make that $17 back, you need at least $170 in earnings to get that bonus to pay for itself. Yeah, don't count on referrals, they quit over time so it is a continuous labor to keep that stream and not something for the casual user. I just need some Christmas cash, so I would probably just break even when I leave again. Better to not commit when it takes that much to recoup the investment.
You spent $30 and you are telling me you only made $43? I would question if it was even worth it for you as you still have to make $300 to get the premium bonus to pay for itself.
