I'm taking a break - could be permanent » Post #1

Fri May 19, 2017 08:52 in General Talk

I've always said to myself that, when my online activity starts affecting my happiness, I will take a break.

Lately there have been too many nasty things said in this forum (such as quotes from the Nazi Party in the Quote of the Day topic, endorsement of violent criminal gangs in the Music topic, and graphic descriptions of violence in another thread).

I realised tonight (it is 1:30am here) that the things I have been seeing here lately are starting to send me into a bad state mentally. The mean comments stick in my mind and have started affecting my sleep & other aspects of my life.

So I'm going to cash in what I have in my account, block my browser from accessing ClixSense for a while, and take that break I promised myself.

I do know that I could just avoid visiting the forum, but that is not me. I like participating at ClixSense, and the forum is a major part of that. So to quit the forum I really have to quit visiting the site.

I'll try to drop by in a few weeks to see if things have improved. There are some very good people here that I will miss (such as tas, BouldRake & pindo), but I just need to get away for a while from the horrible side of the forum as it is genuinely affecting not just my happiness, but also my health.

I probably need a break anyway. I shouldn't be spending so long on the PC at the expense of living a real life.

Bye everyone - hopefully I will make it back here if I start to feel better about it.

I won't be making any further posts in this topic or any other during my time away from here.

I'm blonde. If you want, I could send you a picture of myself. It might help you through these most difficult times of blonde deprivation. :D

No checklist bonus today !! So sad » Post #4

Because I have already waited at the last minute to click one more PTC to validate the checklist bonus today and the following two days before the set off time is scheduled for Clixsense.

Anybody has the same experience with me?

As I just said in another topic you complained in:

You currently have $138.55 sitting in your ClixSense balance. You have earned nearly $500 in less than 12 months. Yet, you are not prepared to fork out a measly $17 for a yearly upgrade which guarantees you a minimum of 4 PTC ads every day?

Sounds like a case of being penny-wise & pound-foolish.

It has been the twice time I have seen the PTCs is not enough and available !

Anyone have the same experience with me ? Very unfair and disappointed !

Had a really good couple of days with lots of surveys:

I think this is the most productive period of all my time here. Almost all of my money these days is earned doing surveys - I don't have the patience for tasks. Plus, I still have another $0.58 to be credited at the end of the day when my Daily Checklist Bonus is awarded.

Hope it stays this good for the rest of the month :D

which is your favourite snack? » Post #35

Thu May 18, 2017 19:07 in General Talk

To me, a snack is something that can be made in less than 5 minutes (during a TV ad break), and can be eaten with one hand (so you don't have to stop what you are doing while eating).

But it was a good topic to start rajukurup. It is interesting to read what different people from different countries & cultures like to nibble on between meals.

How many surveys do you get on an average per day? » Post #5

Most days I complete 2 or 3, which I am quite happy with since I don't want to spend all my time here but I still want to make my daily checklist bonus. Some days none & I have to view a couple of video ad offers for 1c each to get the bonus. Today has been a good day - completed 7 surveys.

I think a lot depends on location & timezone too. Here in Sydney I find that the surveys really start rolling in after midnight my time, which is 10am ClixSense time. So, I either have to sit up late to catch them, or go to bed at a decent time & get online nice & early in the morning (around 6am) to catch the remaining surveys submitted during business hours in the USA.

Like RoseGold, I prefer fresh fruit as a snack. I usually buy half a rockmelon (aka cantaloupe) or honeydew melon from the supermarket a couple of times each week. When I get home, I cut it into bite-sized cubes & keep it in a container in the fridge. Half-a-dozen melon cubes along with either some grapes, a mandarin (orange), or an apple makes for the perfect afternoon snack.

And I have lost 2 inches off my waist since the start of the year when I gave up chocolate bars, potato chips (& other salty snacks) and replaced them with fruit. I still occasionally buy a bag of crisps, but more as a special treat rather than a daily habit.

A real classic with a bright & cheerful melody covering darker lyrics. Apparently written about the love-hate relationship the composer had with his home town of Brisbane.

Law , Your Opinion » Post #35

The strange thing is that, when you look at the national heroes (legendary or real) of many countries & cultures, most were law-breakers. Robin Hood, Ned Kelly, Jesus Christ, Paul Revere, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela. The list goes on & on.

One could also argue that laws are a way of forcing the will of the few upon the many. After all, most laws are written and passed by the wealthy to control the behaviour of the poor & working classes.

I shared another article about this same fossil on Twitter a only couple of hours ago. It certainly has piqued a lot of interest. Amazing how well preserved it is - just in the right place at the right time for the soft bits not to be eaten away.

When I was a child (40 years ago), I actually wanted to be a paleontologist. I think I read every book I could find about dinosaurs, and my parents still joke about the time they had guests over & a couple of hours after I had gone to bed I "sleepwalked" into the party and loudly told everyone how big a dinosaur's tooth is before turning around & going straight back to bed.

Seeing the picture of this one tested my knowledge from all those years ago & looking only at the picture I guessed that it was an ankylosaurus. And I was correct - the fossil nodosaur is from that family of dinosaurs.

Thanks for posting the link to the article BouldRake.

Not necessarily. Cooperation & consensus can often achieve much better results than strict laws. Believe it or not, people are not inclined to eat their neighbours. Those that do have a desire to do something terrible will do it, whether or not there are laws against it.

If laws stopped bad things, then terrorism would not exist. We seem to have a million laws against that, with new ones implemented every week, yet it still happens.

Harsh laws just inspire people to rebel against those laws & those who implemented them. And those who rebel against harsh laws often suffer harsh punishments.

My view is that, in this era where globalisation & technical progress means things change very quickly, laws should have expiry dates (say 5 or 10 years) so that they do not carry on long past their use-by dates. Effective laws that still fit with the times would obviously be continued after political debate, ineffective or outmoded laws would be rescinded or replaced.

A bonus is that the extra work required means politicians would actually be working for their pay, instead of Parliament sitting for just a quarter of the year & being on a break for the other 9 months.

One of Australia's most defining values is that we "have a healthy disrespect for the law".

Though, oddly, we are also very intolerant of anyone else who disrespects the law & demand the harshest of punishments.
