Coronavirus: Tech firms summoned over 'crackpot' 5G conspiracies

The culture secretary is to order social media companies to be more aggressive in their response to conspiracy theories linking 5G networks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Oliver Dowden plans to hold virtual meetings with representatives from several tech firms next week to discuss the matter.

It follows a number of 5G masts apparently being set on fire. [ cool , like it ]

The issue will test the companies' commitments to free speech. [ killing us not enought ????????????????
blazes were reported at masts in Birmingham, Liverpool and Melling in Merseyside.[ in U.K ]

A spokesman for Vodafone's mobile network told the BBC there had been a total of four further incidents over the past 24 hours at both its own sites and those shared with O2, but did not identify the locations.

We must also see social media companies acting responsibly and taking much swifter action to stop nonsense spreading on their platforms which encourages such acts.[ ADIOS FREEDOM , NO MORE ]

Facebook said it had removed a number of groups that were encouraging attacks on 5G masts. [ why ??? ]

However, a post entitled "burn baby burn - it's begun", which accompanied videos of telecoms equipment ablaze, has been allowed to remain online at this time. [ ok ]

Change.org said its open nature allowed anyone to set up a petition about any issue they cared about, but added they must comply with its guidelines to stay online.

We have removed a number of petitions making unsubstantiated health claims about 5G from the platform, a spokeswoman added.

Vodafone has said the attacks are now a matter of national security. [ And our lives are not , f,,k you vodafone ]

Many natural calamities and difficulties are due to the rise in temperature of the globe. There is no doubt in it. Man is more engaged in developing technology forgetting the protection of nature. The 5G truly has adverse effects on nature. It may increase leisure and luxury but the long term effects will be annoying.

There lots health claims on G5 network but I guess it needs being proven!

However,
Why would those mast (G5 network)be set on fire and by whom if not instantly?
Does that when phones uses that network be set on fire too!

They are using Coronavirus to give 5g a bad name - I've heard it and seen it all just more rubbish, considering that it has already been established by credible sources that the wet markets have been the source where the virus originally proliferated. It was passed on from country to country due to TRAVELERS !!! The virus spreads through humans, not through radio waves, not through microwaves, not through text messages, nor through your mobile charger

Isn't 5G non ionising anyway? I mean there could be some concerns over long term exposure, but it certainly doesn't spread coronavirus - Though maybe Android's upcoming version will be codenamed "Corona" why not

I'm not a fan of 5G and I have my concerns despite the fact that it is non ionising , but I certainly do not believe it transmits coronavirus, because corona works on a much higher radio frequency, if anything 5g might kill the virus

Assume 5g might kill the virus does virus, another possibly hacking that network could have been the cause for those fires, I might go a bit over board but take china hacking over that network years ago like "huawei"

Those providers that use that network will need determine that!
