Hoodoo Gurus - Tojo - YouTube
Tojo - refer's to the failure of Tojo's Imperial Japanese Army to reach Darwin (Australia's northernmost city) during WW2, despite heavily bombing it.
Tracy - around 3:30am on Christmas Day, 1974, category 5 tropical cyclone Tracy scored a bulls-eye on Darwin, hitting it with wind speeds up to 240km/h (150mph). The city was devastated & a huge airlift evacuated most residents over coming days/weeks.
A song was later written called Santa Never Made It Into Darwin
. When I was living in Darwin in 1986, it was clear that the locals who had returned & rebuilt after the cyclone really hated that song for making them look like helpless victims. The Hoodoo Gurus decided to right a wrong by penning a song that was much more positive about Darwin's resilience.
