employed, and unemployed. That's why I say, you can't take statistics on it's word.
It is said that over 40% of Americans do not pay income tax to the government.
Well, if over 40% are not, then how can you possibly come up with an employment or non-employment figure?
You can't.
You may be able to count the people in the welfare line and/or in the file for unemployment line.
But that's about it.
Let me give you an example and these are made up examples yet factual in the sense of many people do it:
John works for a self-employed small time construction business owner, name Greg.
John and Greg have been friends for many years.
Greg pays John, cash money every week. John does not file income tax because he does not turn in the
cash earnings Greg pays him. Greg, does not turn in the earnings record on John because in the end, it
saves both Greg and John money.
Sue and Bob are married. Bob is unemployed right now and drawing unemployment benefits.
They don't have children at home and actually they don't have many bills to pay.
Bob's unemployment check covers their bills and they can even go out to eat once and awhile and
to see a movie. They also draw monthly foodstamps so their household groceries are covered.
Sue makes about $1,000 per month online. She dibble and dabbles in various programs of which
none of those programs turn in earnings reports to the government.
That's two small examples of income not submitted or reported to the government.
It's a problem. A big problem. A problem that has not been totally figured out in regards to resolving it,
in America. Many people need every bit of assistance they can get from the government. And to take
it a step further, some of the people cheating and not filing their income, deserve the assistance too!...
because they simply are not making enough money to cover everything or live a life free of money issues.
The problem tho, is that many people that need it, could get more IF people that didn't need it, weren't
taking it.
No matter what, I believe most people want to work. I really believe that. Sure there are lazy people
out there and some people would rather starve than work. Most, however, really do want to be self
sufficient and feel good about being capable of taking care of themselves and their families without
having to stand in a welfare line.
Today tho, I think people are more picky about what jobs they will take. There are jobs out there that
are not filled, because Americans won't do those jobs.
I watched a show of an executive and his professional wife. Both lost their jobs. Both were crying
because they were in default on their million dollar home. Both had some job offers but the jobs
were not the type of jobs they wanted. Duh!
Now I tell you something. I don't have a vehicle payment. I don't have a mortgage payment.
I'm fortunate that I don't. But I will tell you this also...I do NOT live above my means. I could
have more expensive vehicles and I could have a more expensive home IF I wanted to sign
on the dotted line and make monthly payments on those things. Don't get me wrong, there is
nothing bad about having a mortgage or having a vehicle payment.....as long as you live within
your means and can afford it. America stepped in poo because of the banks giving out mortgages
to people that could not afford it. And those people are not all stupid. They knew they could
not afford it and/or did not have the job security to afford it.
Anyway, if things don't get better, the prices are going to continue to rise and people are going
to continue to not be able to afford things and jobs will be less and less because the people cannot
afford to buy. It's a circle that can lead to some very tough times.
